How to Speed up Your PC, part III
Hack 7: Disable time stamps
When you browse any file or folder on your hard disk the system records the time and the date and this feature known as time stamping. This task makes the hard disk very slow so disabling it is better.
Note: Disabling this feature can have an effect on “Windows Search” so if you’re a user that uses Windows Search a lot I recommend that you don't perform this trick.
Step 1: Start -> Run -> Type “Regedit”
Step 2: Navigate your way to
HKEY_Local_MachineSystemCurrentcontrolsetcontrolfilesystem
Step 3: On the right side of the window right click and select “New” -> “Dword (32-bit) Value”
Step 4: Give the key the name “Ntfs Disable Last Access Update”
Step 5: After creating the key right click on it and select “Modify”
Step 6: Change the “Value data” to 1 then click “Ok”
Hack 8: Disable unnecessary programs from startup
Have youever asked yourself how to disable the annoying programs which load in the startup and slow down your computer? The method is really easy but this is something I want to make sure that you understand. Some of these programs are necessary to load at the startup for example your anti-virus. But there are some that aren’t like messenger. If you don’t know which to disable I highly recommend for you to use Soluto which I had previously reviewed. To manually disable program from the startup follow these steps.
Step 1: Start -> Run -> Type “Msconfig”.
Step 2: Select “Startup” tab.
Step 3: Uncheck the programs that you don’t want it to load at startup.
Step 4: When you’re done don’t forget to click “Ok”.
Hack 9: Low disk space
Low disk space is problem which can slow down your computer and this problem is really annoying because sometimes you won’t be able to figure out what is the problem from. I have previously discussed different methods which can help you diagnose the problem and fix it: Low disk space! I hate this message! Learn How to Solve It
Hack 10: Clean Clean Clean and Clean!
Cleaning is an important thing that most users miss and it can make your computer really slow and when I say cleaning I mean clean OS and clean the computer case.
For cleaning your OS there are many programs that can do this job for you they're also free. An example is Ccleaner it’s a great software which can delete browsers history registry etc. For registry cleaning I really like RegistryBooster it’s a paid program but it’s a program worth every penny.
Cleaning the computer case is also an important thing which you have to consider because dust on the hardware can slow down the performance so always keep it clean. ;)
